How they are made

The original figures for the Jumpers are sculpted from polymer clay, and are structured on an armature of aluminum wire and foil.  The figure is roughed in then the details are added.  The sculpt undergoes many reviews before being finalized and baked.

The baked figure is set into a mould box and a clamshell mould is constructed using flexible silicone rubber and a strong, hard mother mould to support it.  The first figure pulled from the mould is retained as the Master figure, to be used when re-moulding is required, as each silicone mould can be used to cast 12 – 18 figures.

The Jumper is cast in two part epoxy resin, and between the flexible silicone mould and the fine epoxy material, all the details are rendered precisely.

Each figure is then sanded, prepped, primed and painted.  Daniel helps with the prep work, and each Jumper is detailed in acrylic paints by Mary, then sealed.  This is a painstaking process that takes many hours.
